Easterly Swell Journal

Over the past few weeks the coast has experienced some Epic swell and surfing conditions. Sean got in on the action and made a dash to Noosa to capture cyclone Hamish in the pouring rain. The rain was so strong that the caravan park Sean would have set up camp in for the night was closed due to 'strong tidal surges' , so it was sleeping in the back of the four wheel drive for the night during the cyclonic weather - all to be able to capture some magic in the morning.  Amongst the rain and cyclonic weather Sean managed to get some black and white shots to capture the wild conditions and waves of main beach Noosa.

The good times and great waves didn't stop when cyclone Hamish did though. Cyclone Jasper had Burleigh pumping this month  and as a result, Sean was back on the road driving from as from Noosa to Byron Bay several times to capture the best swell of the year.

"March has ended up being one of the most consistent runs of large surf in the last 10 years.  I have gone through over 100G of photos and the swell reports are still looking good.  I never thought I would be glad to see some gail force east winds and rain to allow me to stop and take a break.  The conditions have been very tricky with lots of places working for short periods of time.  Fortunately I was able to get some good shots of Noosa in between driving rain.  I saw Burleigh hold one of the biggest and most perfect waves since 2001- albeit at 5.30 am in the rain for roughly 1.5 hours before the wind shifted to the north.  This wind change also opened up the Spit for some beautiful offshore waves.  The wreck at Byron also had it's moments as did the Coolangatta/Kirra section. However the standout moment for me was on Tuesday afternoon March 31st when the swell seemed to peak at Burleigh and the wind died down and shifted back to the south.   The hill at Burleigh became an amphitheater with 100's of locals gathering to witness a true spectacle and to cheer on the gladiators that took to the water to RIDE SOME WAVES."
