"The Ten Golden Rules"

Photography is something that is really about capturing the moment, weather it's the ocean, your friends or a family photo. My philosophy as a photographer is to not try and follow 'rules' as such, but just be free to experiment and learn as you go- here is an exert from "The Wonderful World of Lomography." We are loving the Lomography camera's that we are now selling in our Coolangatta gallery. Thought we'd share this piece out of their book with you as it is very much aligned with my view's on the art of Photography.

"As you embark on  your road of Lomographic discovery, you'll undoubtably be the multi-camera-bearing fool at every party, the person who walks around a foreign city all night for that slamming low-light shot, the maniac who sits at a noodle joint by themselves and photographs their own chopsticks, the heavy-hitter whose bag never has less than five cameras and a dozen rolls of film, and the severely lucky ducky who records each and every moment of their life with a stream of some of the most amazing and mind-blowing analog images that have ever been created. While you travel this path, here are a few pearls of wisdom to guide you. They worked pretty well for us.

1. Take your camera everywhere you go.
2. Use it anytime, day and night.
3. Lomography is not an interference in your life, but part of your life.
4. Try the shot from the hip.
5. Approach the objects of your Lomographic desire as closely as possible.
6. "Don't Think" (William Firebrace).
7. Be fast (we can't stress this enough).
8. You don't have to know beforehand what you've captured on film...
9. ...and you don't necessarily have to know afterwards, either.
10. Don't worry about any rules.  "
